Chimaira (pronounced /kaɪˈmɪərə/) is an American heavy metal band from Cleveland, Ohio, formed in 1998. The band is a notable member of the New Wave of American Heavy Metal. Their band name is derived from the word Chimera, a monstrous creature in Greek mythology. They play a style of mainly groove metal, with some metalcore, industrial metal, and death metal influences.
Threat Signal arose from the filthy, industrialized east end of Hamilton Ontario Canada in late 2003. A detuned, syncopated, melodic metal machine, Threat Signal combines the complexity thrash metal, with a more contemporary groove sound involving technical rhythms, and melodic musical passages.
Before the band had played a single live show, their home recordings generated a significant interest online. The song ‘Rational Eyes’ hit #1 on the international independent music website GarageBand.com and remained in the top position for over 2 years. This prompted many record labels to take notice. One label in particular fit perfectly with the bands vision, and in 2005 Threat Signal inked a deal with Nuclear Blast Records.
Threat Signal’s debut album ‘Under Reprisal’ was recorded with producer Christian Olde Wolbers (Fear Factory/Arkaea). “Its without a doubt my favorite album of 2006,” Wolbers remarks, “A mix of Strapping Young Lad, Fear Factory, Soilwork… a true Canadian phenomenon!” Veteran mixer Tue Madsen added the final touches to the album and it was released internationally in August 2006. Embraced by fans and critics, perhaps the most meaningful praise for the album came in the form of the Canadian Recording of the Year award bestowed upon the band in their hometown at the 2006 Hamilton Music Awards.
After supporting Under Reprisal on the road for over 2 years, Threat Signal entered the studio in November 2008. They recorded their second album ‘Vigilance’ with vocalist/producer Jon Howard (Threat Signal/Arkaea). Fellow Canadian Greg Reely was chosen to mix and master the album and it was released under Nuclear Blast Records September 8th 2009.
The third, self-titled Threat Signal album was released under Nuclear Blast records in October 2011. Recorded and produced at Planet Z studios by metal mastermind Zeuss (CHIMAIRA, HATEBREED, ALL THAT REMAINS, THE ACACIA STRAIN, BORN OF OSIRIS, SHADOWS FALL, AGNOSTIC FRONT, ARSIS). Artwork was created by Colin Marks (ORIGIN, SCAR SYMMETRY, SUICIDE SILENCE, EXODUS).
Threat Signal has performed live with Soilwork, All That Remains, Opeth, Hatebreed, Children Of Bodom, Darkest Hour, Mnemic, Protest The Hero, Testament, Saxon, Nevermore, Lordi, Motorhead, Hammerfall, Arch Enemy, Epica, Eluvitie, Scar Symmetry, Kataklysm, and many more…
In what could be described as nothing short of ‘adventurous,’ THE BROWNING’s music takes influences from all across the metal spectrum and heavily fuses them with hardstyle, trance and other areas of electronic music in a way that most metal acts would not dare attempt. The band pushes boundaries and pushes buttons. In short, when it comes to The Browning, TheNewReview.net put it best when they said “the soundtrack to the apocalypse has arrived.”
Formed in 2009, Dark Sermon arrives in the worldwide metal community determined to stand apart from the cookie-cutter garbage and trend-following cretins who have overcrowded the scene. They don’t care about what’s marketable or what sells. Dark Sermon has nothing less than total domination on their minds, armed with a new kind of heavy. The suffocating stomp of Behemoth, the brash experimentalism of Gojira and the all-out ferocity of American heroes like Job For A Cowboy and The Black Dahlia Murder all have a home in the Dark Sermon cookbook, which slices and dices its way through the most exciting elements of metal’s subgenres with relentless aggression.
Hailing from Chicago, the fully awakened beast that is Of Wolves is a raw and heavy blend of Punk & Metal from Stoner Sludge to Hardcore & Post Punk. This unique three piece focuses on releasing energy through music as therapy and feel like a force of evolution for mankind through their music, topics and imagery. Their viciously savage vocal driven approach and instrumentation seem to transmit sonic vibrations directly to the core of their fans to shock them out of their trance-like state of social programming & control. This intensity paired with a lack of any usual musical boundaries gives them a unique freedom that limits many bands. Because they have not allowed themselves to be caged or boxed into one sound, genre or style these freedoms become a liberating force that allow them to go where their rage and emotions take them as a band without compromise. A therapeutic release comes straight through the songs with a rare straight forward approach of brutal force and raw intensity. While the music is directly in touch with the world with subject matter many of us are also feeling. Subjects that are direct relationship to a working class life. Everyday stress, disillusion & greed, corruption, injustice. A deep seeded frustration with the current issues of our world, jobs, governments, economies, politics & religion. The jaring release the music provides to the band and their fans appears unforgiving as it destroys walls and clears pathways into the lifelong barrage of programming. The uniqueness of this band will be a refreshing change and an addictive new musical fix for all those who witness their fierce and straight forward approach and want something new and different…. a slap in the face, a wake up call to the masses. And its a good thing as it seems as though if these guys were not letting out all their anger and frustrations through their music, they’d probably be in jail or on the news. But they say they are just regular guys sick of the fixed game they are stuck in. You be the judge.
Pale Horseman is a 4 piece metal band from the Chicago area which combines elements of sludge, doom, and death metal. Featuring a dual attack of guitarists/vocalists and a pummeling rhythm section, their live shows have been most often described as “crushing” and their studio recordings have been handled by the mixing boards of some of their biggest influences including Dennis Pleckham of Bongripper, Noah Landis of Neurosis, and Justin Broadrick of Godflesh.
