Staff Pick: Last False Hope in The Rock Club on 11/16/13

Last False Hope first gives me the feeling that I’ve heard this all before, until I get drawn in deeper by their irresistable sound. It’s the blend of genres in each song and quality of musicianship that just won’t let me tune out. Folk-Punk? Death-Country? Whatever you call it, it’s loud and it’s fresh. LFH could be on the verge of hitting it huge! Tune them in on the Reggies site then head down to the Rock Club to hear…

THE PICK: Barn Burning, Country Rock’N’Roll

The staff pick is all about calling out a band that isn’t always a headliner, and probably isn’t well known. The pick is meant to open you up to something new that won’t be on your friends iPods yet, but that is definitely worth dragging them all down to Reggies Chicago to listen live. So here comes the next Pick: The Mallett Brothers Band is going to tear up the Music Joint on Friday, Aug 9 with their summer-heatin’-whiskey-drinkin’-shit-kickin’-date-nightin’-country-rockin’ music….

THE PICK: SUN STEREO July 13 in the Music Joint

There’s a sweet Summer surprise hitting the Music Joint this hot July night. It’s a stone cold groove that is not to be missed. SUN STEREO lands at Reggies for the first time, delivering a fresh hybridization of organic and electronic elements with Beatlesque vocal harmonies, electronic soundscapes, nu-age story book lyrics, and a funk your face off horn section. Listen to them on our site and you’re hooked. They are opening for Grood. Tickets at the door only. It…

Rogue Host DJ

So, I was called in last second to host WOWO tonight, and was nervous as hell that I would fuck it up for everyone ! I sought comfort in an old friend and set a general theme of Rolling Stones music. No matter what the other DJs played, I could always follow their lead and bring it back to a Stones tune. They are plugged in to every genre. It was so awesome to have five new spinners out tonight….

SPINNIN’ A GROOVE

Our second evening of open turntables was a success, and I think this thing here to stay. Thanks to host DJ Devon and everyone who came out last night for Wax On Wax Off in the Music Joint. We had a wide variety of grooves going on. The sets were filled with rare 60s Soul and Blues, early 80s College Punk, 70s Reggae Beats, late 60s American Rock, late 80s Club Rock, and current Mixes– all anchored by Devon and…

Classic !

The Great Gig In The Sky ! Every last Thursday of every month is Classic Albums Performed Live in The Music Joint. This month, two very talented bands rocked it with The Cure- On The Beach and Pink Floyd- Dark Side Of The Moon (an interesting combo). With music this sweet, I’m surprised it’s not sold out every month. Rumours are spreading that an upcoming Classic is going to be HUGE ! Keep checking the site. You don’t want to…

ISIS QUEEN IN THE GREENROOM !

I’m just recovering from the Thursday night show: Greek Punks BARB WIRE DOLLS tore up Reggies. My undying gratitude to Isis Queen for her Greenroom hospitality and unlimited access to PBRs ! That Australian accent is devastating, and Punk is back with a vengeance, thanks to BWDs.

EARTHEN GRAVE w/ Rachel Barton Pine

This band has a way of taking me back in time, to high school, and making me look at the dark future at the same time. Get to the Rock Club early because they are the opening band before Gaza, and then Black Cobra.
